WASHINGTON (AP) — Law enforcement authorities are responding to a shooting near the White House.
Journalists working there on Saturday reported hearing a series of gunshots and were told to seek shelter inside the press conference room. U.S. Secret Service officers prevented them from leaving.
There were no reports of injuries or information about the circumstances.
On X, the Secret Service said it was “aware of reports of shots fired near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW” – just a block from the White House – and was “working to verify this information with those on scene.”
FBI Director Kash Patel said in a social media post that police were responding to the shooting and said he would “do all we can to update the public on the situation.”
