An earthquake was detected on Hawaii’s Big Island but did not trigger a tsunami threat, according to emergency officials.

HAWAII, United States — A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck the Big Island of Hawaii on Friday night, but it did not trigger a tsunami threat.

The earthquake was detected around 9:45 pm Hawaii Standard Time and was felt on the Big Island, Maui and Oahu. According to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The cause of the quake was still under investigation Saturday morning, but its depth was estimated to be about 16 miles below sea level.

U.S. Tsunami Warning System It was confirmed that the earthquake did not trigger a tsunami warning, advisory, watch or threat.
