Officials are investigating the cause of a mobile home fire in Snohomish that left one resident with severe burns and a smoke alarm that reportedly did not work.
SNOHOMISH, Wash. — An early morning fire at a mobile home in Snohomish seriously injured one person, according to Snohomish County Fire District No. 4.
Firefighters were dispatched to the 6900 block of Southeast 87th Avenue around 1:29 a.m. Friday after reports of a deck fire in the rear of a double-wide mobile home. Crews arrived within minutes and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the back deck, according to fire officials.
There were two people inside the house at the time of the fire. One of the residents woke up and opened the back door to check for the source of the fire, which officials said caused the fire to spread throughout the home.
One resident suffered severe second-degree burns to her hands and face and was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center for treatment. No firefighters were injured.
According to media reports, firefighters controlled the fire in about 20 minutes and declared the situation under control at 1:57 a.m.
The American Red Cross is assisting the two displaced residents and their cat and dog. Officials said there were no smoke alarms in the home.
The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. Officials said the home is considered a total loss.
