SEATTLE — Memorial Day weekend is often considered the unofficial start of summer, even though the first day of summer is still a month away.
This weekend, enjoy Seattle’s iconic Folk Festival, browse books in Ballard or head to the mountains to enjoy Partly sunny with temperatures around 70 degrees. But on Monday, there are several opportunities to cash in on the reasons for the long weekend.

Memorial Day Ceremony: Events will be held across Western Washington to mourn and honor military members who have lost their lives in service to the United States. this washington state capitol A Memorial Day ceremony will be held on May 25 from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Legislative Building Rotunda; other locations include Kent, Seattle and SeaTac. Northwest Folk Festival: May 22-25— The 55th annual Northwest Folk Festival takes place at Seattle Center, highlighting the region’s arts scene and diverse cultures. This year marks the nonprofit’s last installation of a “Cultural Focus” series titled “Ubuntu,” an African philosophy commonly used with the phrase “I exist because we exist,” according to the nonprofit.
