WASHINGTON — “90 Day Fiancé’s” Jenny Slatten has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
The 68-year-old TLC star shared the news in an exclusive interview people The diagnosis was confirmed on social media in an article published by the magazine on Tuesday.
“It is with heavy hearts that we want to share this news with you all,” Slater posted on Instagram.
Jenny and Sumit live in India and met during the show’s 2019 season. They appeared in subsequent seasons and spin-offs, and will appear in the third season of 90 Day: The Last Resort, which premieres June 1.
Slatten said she began experiencing symptoms in December 2024, tell magazine She choked “severely” while drinking water, had difficulty swallowing pills, and began treatment for migraines. Then she began to speak slower and avoid talking almost entirely.
“That’s when we knew something was wrong,” she told the magazine.
It took Jenny and her husband Sumit Singh, 38, a year to finally get answers.
“Rumor was that I had a stroke, but it turned out to be ALS,” she wrote on Instagram. “At first, we tried to keep it private because it was very emotional and overwhelming for us. We wanted to find some sort of resolution before speaking out publicly. But after trying for a while, we felt it was time to reach out.”
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s diseaseis a progressive neurological disease that affects motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. The condition is degenerative and there is currently no cure. The average life expectancy after diagnosis is approximately two to five years.
Jenny told the magazine that her father died from the disease more than a decade ago, leading her to believe it could be the cause of her symptoms. About 10% of ALS cases are found to have a genetic cause.
