“I did the worst thing in the world,” the suspect told detectives.
BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A 43-year-old woman has been charged with domestic violence and attempted murder of a child in Bellingham.
Charging documents say police were dispatched to Lisa Lane in Bellingham on May 16 in response to a report that a 4-year-old child had been stabbed and strangled by the suspect, the children’s mother. A second call told police a disheveled woman broke a second-story window and tried to jump out.
The child’s 9-year-old brother escaped unharmed, went to a neighbor’s house and called 911.

“Can we get my brother to the hospital? I think he might be dead, but I just want you to try and save his life because he’s the best brother I’ve ever had,” the child said.
Both children were taken to PeaceHealth Medical Center. The 9-year-old had no visible injuries, but the 4-year-old suffered more than 15 superficial cuts and one wound on his arm that required stitches. The younger child also had bruises on his neck and damage to blood vessels around his eyes, consistent with strangulation.
During the course of questioning the suspect, detectives learned more details.
She said the suspect used psilocybin mushrooms during a trip to Orcas Island with some friends between May 11 and 15. When she returned to her family, she felt “completely recovered.”
On May 16, after purchasing unusual toys and fast food, the children were playing with their mother and the suspect experienced what she called a “period of amnesia.” She said she thought she hurt the younger child but didn’t remember it; she did remember telling the older child to leave the house.
When detectives arrived, the suspect, disheveled and covered in blood, was sitting among flowers across the street. The suspect was taken into custody and detained.
While in custody, charging documents show the suspect told responding officers, “I stabbed him and I had to watch him die when he was born, so he survived and now I have to kill him.”
When Bellingham police interviewed the suspect, she said she told them she allegedly planned to give the children sleeping pills. According to police, the suspect repeatedly said, “I want to kill them later in the night in their sweet sleep. But I don’t know where those pills will be.”
