Two men pried off the roof, vandalized a Tacoma business and attempted to steal about $25,000 worth of marijuana products, prosecutors said.
TACOMA, Wash. — Two men have been charged after prosecutors say they punctured the roof of a Tacoma marijuana distribution business in an attempt to steal about $25,000 worth of product.
Maurice Lynn Allen III and Treyvion Domineek Green were charged Friday in Pierce County Superior Court with first-degree burglary, first-degree malicious mischief and first-degree attempted burglary.
Allen was also charged with obstructing a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. Green is also charged with obstructing a law enforcement officer.
According to court documents, police responded to a burglary that occurred at MGE Distribution at 1216 Center Street in Tacoma around 2:31 a.m. Thursday.
Dispatchers reported that video from the scene showed two people entering the store from the roof.
When police arrived they found two people on the roof. Police said Allen jumped, ran and was tased while trying to climb a fence before being taken into custody. After his arrest, a shirt tied like a mask, sunglasses and gloves were taken from him, police said.
Green was later found by a police K9 in a separate office in a gated area of the property, documents state.
According to court documents, police found a ladder inside the store that led to a freshly cut hole in the roof. Framing, insulation, drywall and roofing materials were on the floor below, police said.
Investigators also found a chainsaw and other tools on the roof, as well as multiple boxes of marijuana products. The business owner told police the tools and ladders did not belong to the business, documents show.
The owner estimated about $25,000 worth of finished marijuana was stolen and said damage to the building totaled about $100,000, according to court documents. Police said there was also new damage to electrical wiring where the store’s security cameras were supposed to be installed.
Police said the suspect spent more than an hour breaking into the building from the roof.
