The man suspected of killing a University of Washington student Sunday night turned himself in to Bellevue police Wednesday.
SEATTLE — Seattle police confirmed Thursday that they have arrested a man suspected of fatally stabbing a University of Washington student on Sunday, May 10.
Seattle police officials said the suspect turned himself in to Bellevue police on Wednesday. Bellevue coordinated with Seattle police and the suspect was taken into custody around 10 p.m.
The arrest occurred hours later Seattle police release photos Efforts are being made to track down the suspect.
University of Washington police investigated the Nordheim Court Apartments, an off-campus residence hall, on Sunday night and discovered a woman stabbed to death In the laundry room.
Officials have identified the victim as a 19-year-old transgender woman, who has not been officially identified by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police are working to find a motive and what led up to the stabbing.
University of Washington President Robert J. Jones issues statement acknowledging pain Attacks take a toll on campus community, with particular recognition of its potential impact on LGBTQIA+ students.
“While investigators have not yet identified a suspect or motive, I want to recognize that when violence affects trans people, it is especially concerning for members of our LGBTQIA+ community,” Jones wrote.
The incident shocked the campus community, especially the students who live in the building. One student told KING 5 she took the step of barricading her doors at night and expected the effects to be long-lasting.
“No matter what precautions were taken, whether he was caught or not, this is something you can’t undo. This is something that will forever hang over this building,” Joel added.
