
A spokesman for the Tacoma Fire Department said firefighters believe the fire broke out in the Temple Theater building and appeared to be on the roof.
TACOMA, Wash. — Firefighters responded to a structure fire in downtown Tacoma Tuesday afternoon, according to the Tacoma Fire Department.
The fire was reported in the 00 block of St. Helens Avenue around 4:19 p.m.
Tacoma Fire Department spokesperson Chelsea Shepherd said firefighters believe the fire broke out in the Temple Theater building and appeared to be on the roof.
Crews initially responded to the building, which is believed to be five stories high, with a standard one-alarm response, but quickly upgraded the response to a two-alarm fire to assist in extinguishing the high-rise fire.
In a social media post, the Tacoma Fire Department urged people to avoid the area while crews remained on scene.
