The comedian will host the 2027 Oscars, despite his “passing away” during a comedy sketch at the end of this year’s ceremony.
WASHINGTON — Conan O’Brien will return as host of the Academy Awards in 2027, becoming one of the illustrious people to host at least three consecutive Oscars.
O’Brien was announced as host of the 99th Academy Awards on Tuesday by Oscar CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor. The awards show will air live on ABC and Hulu from the Dolby Theater on Sunday, March 14, 2027.
Other people in Oscar history to host the Oscars multiple times include Billy Crystal, Johnny Carson and Bob Hope. Others have hosted three or more times — Jimmy Kimmel, Whoopi Goldberg, Jerry Lewis, David Niven and Steve Martin, to name a few — but none in consecutive years.
O’Brien’s hat trick came after he closed the 2026 ceremony with a pre-recorded clip from “One Piece,” a parody of the Best Picture winner, and was named “Oscar Host for Life,” before being taken to a private office where gas seeped in through the vents and “killed” him.
O’Brien’s showrunners Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney will also return for a third consecutive season, as will executive producers Raj Kapoor and Katie Mullan for a fourth consecutive year.
