WASHINGTON — Actor Donald Gibb, who appeared in dozens of movies and TV shows, most notably “Revenge of the Nerds,” has died at the age of 71, according to reports.
Gibb, who played the ogre in the 1980s film series, died on Tuesday due to health complications, his son told him. TMZ. Gibb reportedly died at his home in Texas with his family by his side.
Gibb had a handful of roles in the early 1980s, including in the TV shows Simon & Simon and Draconis, as well as uncredited roles in the films Stripes and Conan, before breaking out in 1984’s Revenge of the Nerds. He plays Frederick Aloysius “Ogre” Palowaski, who torments the titular “nerds” in college with his fictional Adams college football teammates. He reprized the role in sequels in 1987 and 1994.
In addition to the series, he starred in a number of classic TV series from the 1980s and 1990s, including Magnum, PI, Benson, Facts, Night Court, MacGyver and The X-Files. He is also known for his role as martial arts fighter Ray Jackson in the 1988 film Bloodsport.
Donald Richard Gibb was born in New York City on August 4, 1954, and grew up in California. He attended the University of New Mexico on a basketball scholarship and then played football and basketball at the University of San Diego. According to IMDB, he had a spot on the San Diego Chargers before his acting career took off.
