Paralyzed Virginia graduate walks across stage with help from robotic suit

Virginia Union University graduate Jaiden Picot stepped onto the stage wearing a robot suit to receive his executive MBA.

VA, USA – A paralyzed Virginia college graduate uses a special robotic suit to help him walk across the street graduate Saturday stage.

“This is not how I imagined walking on stage, but it really means a lot to me,” Jaden Pickett told me ABC News.

Two years ago, Jaiden Picot, a Virginia Union University graduate, was hit by a truck while riding his electric scooter to work, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.

But he didn’t let a life-changing injury derail his educational dreams.

The 23-year-old graduated with a bachelor’s degree from VUU last year, and on Saturday, he took to the same stage to receive an EMBA degree.

“I feel accomplished, man, really, I feel accomplished,” Pickett told CNN. “I feel like, I feel like nothing can stop me now.”

He was wearing a suit from Sheltered Arms Institutewhich helps to help him stand and walk.

According to the institute, these types of suits are wearable walking aids that can assist people with spinal cord injuries with walking therapy.

Inspired by his experiences, Pickett plans to pursue a career in real estate.

“I just wanted to do more to help disabled people like me. Because I know for myself, it’s really hard to find an inclusive and comfortable home for yourself,” Pickett told world research center. “So I just want to help a lot of people like me, like find housing that makes them feel comfortable and have an active life.”

“I had a goal before the accident that I wanted to do this,” he told WTVR. “I didn’t let the accident stop me, so I worked hard, prayed, had faith and I made it here.”
