Firefighters found heavy flames coming from both floors of a two-story home.
SNOHOMISH, Wash. — A two-story home in Snohomish was severely damaged in the Mother’s Day Fire, but no injuries were reported, according to Snohomish Area Fire Rescue.
Crews were called to help Snohomish County Fire District 4 put out a residential fire in the 1700 block of Sixth Street on Sunday afternoon.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy flames coming from both floors of the home.
Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, officials said.
The entire home sustained significant fire damage and crews had to conduct extensive cleanup while inspecting hot spots.
No members of the public, pets or firefighters were injured, officials said.
After the fire, Snohomish Regional Fire Rescue reminded families to discuss what to do if a fire breaks out in a multi-story home. Fire officials said people on the second floor should not jump out of a window if their room has the door closed and is hot to the touch. Instead, they should stay near a window, call for help, and signal to firefighters with something visible, such as a blanket, towel, or pillow.
A fire escape ladder can also be used as an alternative method of escape, but fire officials say everyone in the home should know how to use it before an emergency occurs.
