A wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 near Tacoma seriously injured three people and led to an extended road closure after one of them was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

TACOMA, Wash. — A wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 near Tacoma Sunday morning caused a suspected impaired driver to close all southbound lanes and seriously injured three people, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The first update on the crash was issued just before 8:50 a.m., with Trooper Kameron Watts saying all southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near milepost 129 were blocked due to a wrong-way collision.

Four people were taken to the hospital, Watts said. Three of the victims were seriously injured.

One person was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and vehicular assault. Additional costs have not yet been determined.
