Muskegon High School junior Jordyn was attending a prom after-party at the local VFW hall at Post 3734 in Fruitport on Saturday night when the shooting occurred.
Four people were shot and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. During the chaos, two people, including Jordyn, were hit by vehicles trying to leave the area.
Tamara Williams said Monday that her daughter was in the intensive care unit but in stable condition and that several surgeries on her left leg were scheduled for later in the day.
She said Jordyn Williams was born with sickle cell anemia and receives monthly treatment at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.
She described her daughter as “shy and soft-spoken” with a passion for makeup, knitting and sewing. She said Jordyn designed the prom dress she wore this weekend and hand-sewed the bodice.
Investigators believe multiple shots were fired at the party.
Lisa Bosworth, a neighbor who lives near the hall, told 13 ON YOUR SIDE it sounded like 30 to 40 gunshots were fired when the shooting occurred, followed by screams.
“When I got up and looked out the front window, I realized I was still hearing more gunshots and we had a lot of teenagers running into our yard, right in our driveway,” Bosworth said. “The cars stopped right at the dead end sign and they were scrambling and screaming for their lives.”
Law enforcement officials have not yet confirmed if there is any suspect information or if anyone is in custody.
