University of Wisconsin Police responded to a call to Nordheim Court Apartments Sunday night on a report of a possible homicide.
SEATTLE — Police are searching for a suspect after a 19-year-old student was stabbed to death in a University of Washington residence hall building Sunday night, according to University of Washington officials.
The University of Washington Police Department said officers responded to a stabbing that occurred at Nordheim Court Apartments, an off-campus residence hall near campus, around 10:10 p.m.
When officers arrived at the building at 5000 25th Avenue Northeast, they found the female victim in the laundry room, according to police.
University of Washington Police and the Seattle Fire Department attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the suspect is believed to be a black man, 25 to 30 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a slim build, black hair and a beard. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and possibly a button-down shirt under a dark blue vest.
Police urge anyone who sees the suspect to call 911 immediately.
Investigators are treating the case as a homicide. Seattle police took over the case from the University of Wisconsin, and detectives from the Seattle Police Department’s Homicide and Crime Scene Investigation Unit processed the scene.
Shortly after the incident, UW officials advised Nordheim Court residents to shelter in place, but the order was lifted just before 1 a.m.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death and release the identity of the victim at a later date.
Investigators have not yet revealed what led to the stabbing, and the circumstances surrounding the homicide remain under investigation.
University officials acknowledged the impact the incident could have on students, faculty and staff and said support services are available through the UW Counseling Center, SafeCampus, Husky Assist and the Washington State Employee Assistance Program.
