We thought there was a little space for the spinners in the middle. It’s not easy to hit sixes or get to the boundary,” he explained. Gill also stressed the importance of partnership and game awareness on tricky surfaces. “We thought let’s keep the wicket in hand and try to bat deep… There was one stage where we didn’t get to the boundary in the 17th, 18th over but I thought we covered it well in the last over,” he said. The GT captain emphasized the team’s aggressive bowling philosophy, especially in the powerplay. “We believe it is important to hold the fort in front… The only way to contain the other team is to keep taking wickets. There is no other way,” Gill said. He also confirmed the minor injury scare during the inning. “I think I just sprained my ankle while running. It was very painful but calmed down after half an hour,” he added. Gill said that with GT now on a four-match win streak and climbing the rankings, the focus remains on consistency rather than perfection. “Very happy. Now the next game is at home.
