
California Dairy’s milk powder and buttermilk were recalled in late April but have been used by multiple brands as ingredients in their products.
Some brands are recalling food products because they contain ingredients that pose a potential salmonella risk.
California Dairy released Recall on April 20 its bulk milk powder and buttermilk products due to potential salmonella risks. These milk products are sent to multiple wholesale distributors and manufacturers who use it as an ingredient in the production of their own products.
Since the recall, seven brands have removed the products from shelves and urged consumers not to eat the foods.
As of May 9, the following brands have recalled products using the recalled dairy products as ingredients.
What is Salmonella?
Salmonella is a group of bacteria that can cause gastrointestinal illness and fever, according to the Department of Health. U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The disease can also be spread through undercooked or raw food, or by handling certain animals and not washing them thoroughly before eating.
Symptoms usually appear within 8 to 72 hours after exposure and can last 4 to 7 days. The most common symptoms include diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps and dehydration. Most cases do not require medical treatment.
Severe cases are uncommon but can be fatal. Children under 5 and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of severe symptoms. Older adults and pregnant women are also at higher risk.
Washing your hands thoroughly before eating is one of the best ways to prevent salmonellosis.
