New Delhi: Dravid Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Chairman Stalin On Thursday, the party hosted a meeting of 59 newly elected MLAs at its party headquarters in Chennai, days after counting of votes for the April 23 assembly elections.Several resolutions were passed during the meeting, including one criticizing the Congress for extending support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) despite joining the DMK in the elections. TVK, led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, emerged as the largest single party in the state but failed to secure a majority of 118 seats.The DMK, in its first resolution, thanked its alliance partners and the people of Tamil Nadu after being voted out after one term. The second resolution commended Stalin for his “decades of devotion to the party and Tamil Nadu”.The third resolution empowered Stalin – the outgoing chief minister who was defeated in his own Korattur constituency – to take all political decisions on behalf of the party and stressed the importance of ensuring stability in the government.The fourth resolution accused Congress of “breaking away” from the Secular Progressive Alliance.“The Congress failed to change its old political identity. As part of the DMK-led alliance, it won one Lok Sabha seat and 28 assembly constituencies, but within days switched to another front, destroying the victory achieved by the hard work of the alliance cadres,” the resolution said.The Congress party, which won five seats, has extended support to TVK on the condition that no “common forces” be included in the alliance. However, TVK is still six seats away from majority as Vijay, who won from Perambur and Trichy East, will have to vacate a constituency.On Wednesday, Vijay met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and proposed forming the government. On Thursday, the governor invited him again and informed him that TVK had not yet received the majority support needed to form a government.
