Capt. Jeffrey Noble identified 30-year-old Trooper Kevin Trainor during a news conference Wednesday morning at the State Police Danvers Barracks.

According to Noble, Trainor was heading home after get off work around 2 a.m. when 911 received a report of a wrong-way driver traveling south in the northbound lanes of Route 1 in Linfield. The vehicle, identified as a Jeep, collided head-on with Traynor’s cruiser around 2:04 a.m.
“In the blink of an eye, those reckless actions took Kevin away from his mother, Barbara, his fiancé, Jessica, and his siblings, Melissa, MatthewDavid and Steven. These reckless actions caused him to lose contact with his family and his brothers and sisters in the Massachusetts State Police. “Noble said.
“We know the days ahead will be difficult for Kevin’s family, the Massachusetts State Police, and all of his colleagues past and present. Today, we will always stand with them, support them, and honor Kevin’s memory. Nothing can make up for the pain we feel today, but we solemnly promise: We will never forget his service as a decorated Massachusetts State Police officer.”
The driver died
The driver of the vehicle traveling in the wrong direction was also pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.
Who is Kevin Trainor?
Noble said Traynor had been serving as a trooper for the past three years. Prior to that, he served as a correctional officer Essex County. During his three years with the State Police, he served as a Field Training Officer (often referred to as a “Soldier Trainer”) and was a member of the Troop A Community Action Team.
“Kevin Trainor is a hero,” Governor Healey said
Gov. Maura Healey spoke at a press conference after Noble, offering her heartfelt condolences to the Traynor family.
“We lost a hero today,” Healy said. “Kevin Trainor is a hero who was doing a heroic job when this terrible tragedy struck us early this morning. My heart goes out to his family, his loved ones, his friends.”
The governor said she met with Traynor’s family this morning and said they were visibly shocked and heartbroken.
“Kevin comes from a family that’s committed to public service. I’ve met his siblings who were a paramedic, a firefighter, a physician’s assistant and more, and Kevin was passionate about public service, and as the colonel said, that was his career, albeit an all too brief one.”
