Tragedy struck Monday night in Houston’s quiet River Oaks neighborhood when police discovered a family of four, including a couple and two children, dead during a welfare check. Authorities believe the death was the result of a murder-suicide and the investigation is ongoing.

what happened?

At 5:26 pm local time on Monday, May 4th, Houston Police officials were called to a home on Kingston Street near Avalon Place in the River Oaks area after the family’s nanny and one of the victim’s sisters raised the alarm. They had not seen or heard from the family since Sunday night. Kowu.

About ten minutes later, police arrived and entered the home where they found four people dead, including a father, a mother and two children aged eight and four. All four died of gunshot wounds.

Police identified the adults as Matthew Mitchell According to reports, he is 52 years old and his wife Thy Mitchell is 39 years old. Employees at the couple, who own two restaurants in Houston’s Montrose neighborhood: Traveler’s Table and Traveler’s Cart, confirmed they were the adults found dead, KHOU reported. The children were found dead in their bed, Fox 26 reported. People also reported that Ty Mitchell was pregnant at the time of her death.

Investigators said evidence at the scene showed the man shot three victims before turning the gun on himself. Police are continuing to work on the timeline of events. HPD Homicide Detectives are handling the investigation.

Family members speak out

Ty Mitchell’s sister confirms heartbreaking news Facebook postidentified the family and requested privacy. “Ly Mai writes that her sister, Thy and Thy’s children Maya and Max, passed away last night,” the post read. “Our family is deeply saddened and asks for privacy during this extremely difficult time. Funeral arrangements will be shared when available. Thank you for your understanding and support.”

What do the neighbors say?

The deaths have deeply shaken the tight-knit River Oaks community. A neighbor told KHOU the family had not lived there long, but said she had seen them walking near her home. “It’s very sad,” she said. “I’m just shocked for the kids and the family that we don’t know all the details. I’m sure there are a lot of people who know more than we do, but when something like this happens it’s a tragedy.”

Another neighbor, Cindy, told Click 2, quote people Houston said she has never seen anything like this in nearly two decades of living in River Oaks. “I’ve lived in this neighborhood for 19 years and I’ve never seen anything like this,” she said. “We haven’t had a tragedy like this. We haven’t had a robbery.” She added: “We have incredible police officers in this community, but this is very sad. I’m just shaking for these little kids.”
