Tamil Nadu poll results: Decoding Vijay’s ‘Whistle Podu’ forays into politics, from MGR to NTR legacy

“My understanding, suggestions and data show that if he goes alone, he has a good chance. You will be surprised. I don’t mean win the seat, I mean win Tamil Nadu. Keep this video and play it when the results are out. As long as he puts in the effort and time, he has a good chance. If AIADMK partners with BJP, DMK alliance stays as is and TVK goes alone, put it in writing that he (Vijay) has a good chance,” Kishor said in the clip.In early 2025, Kishore was proposed to serve as an advisor to the Vijay-led TVK party, but he later quit citing his responsibilities as Jan Suraaj party leader, which contested the Bihar polls in 2025 and ended up winning zero seats.Early trends on Monday appeared to echo that assessment. TVK soared to the lead in nearly 100 constituencies, leaving the state’s traditional heavyweights Dravida Munnetra Kazagam and the all-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagam behind. Vijay himself is comfortably ahead in Tiruchirappalli (east), while his party has made significant gains in Chennai, long considered a DMK stronghold.Senior figures in the DMK, including chief minister MK Stalin and his son Udhayanidhi Stalin, are trailing in their respective seats. Stalin is currently supporting TVK’s VS Babu in Korattur, underscoring the scale of the challenge facing the ruling party. The DMK-led alliance leads with less than 50 seats, well below expectations set by most exit polls. The AIADMK-led alliance remains in second place, although it too lags behind the momentum generated by TVK. Meanwhile, the BJP is in a tough spot with several prominent leaders including L Murugan and Tamilisai Soundararajan trailing in the constituency.Celebrations among TVK supporters have begun, with party workers gathering to play Vijay’s popular song “whistle podu” as the lead widens. If current trends continue, Vijay’s party could deliver one of the most dramatic electoral upsets in the state’s history, challenging the decades-long dominance of the DMK-AIADMK duopoly.
