The bigger bombshell in the report, however, is that the forensic team also found DNA and fingerprints in an abandoned SUV near a Superior jogging trail. The individuals reportedly matched with previously unnamed persons of interest who had been interviewed.

Have police interviewed Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapper?

While the report doesn’t say the person whose DNA was found is now a suspect, it’s natural to question what that person’s forensic evidence was doing near where Guthrie’s items were found.

If the people whose DNA was found were indeed the kidnappers, they would have likely been questioned by authorities at that time. However, official sources have not yet confirmed the identity of the suspect. In the meantime, retired FBI agent Mark Lageman shares his perspective on the case.

“This type of physical evidence linking the suspect to the vehicle and the victim’s belongings would cause a stir on social media if released,” he said, adding, “In today’s environment, a solid forensic effort can generate millions of leads overnight.”

Meanwhile, Boulder County authorities haven’t released much information about the suspect. They said only that he was a local man who had previous contact with law enforcement.

Nancy Guthrie Case: Persons of Interest, Developments

Lageman cautioned that while the evidence is promising, investigators must proceed with caution. Still, it’s been more than two months since Guthrie was reported missing. Authorities have interviewed a number of people in connection with the case.

An unnamed man was detained during a traffic stop near Rio Rico, Arizona, about 60 miles from Tucson. However, investigators released him the next day. Two other people were taken from a home about two miles from Guthrie’s residence. One of them was taken in for questioning and released the next day.

It remains to be seen whether the person whose DNA was found is among them. As for the suspect, authorities have only released photos of the masked man seen at Guthrie’s home. Newly discovered forensic evidence may help narrow the search, sparking excitement among those who have been following the Nancy Guthrie kidnapping case.
