Opinion polls show the race to be a close one, with the BJP and TMC expected to win about 145 seats each in the 294-member parliament, with other members expected to win about four seats.However, most individual surveys favor the BJP. Chanakya Strategies predicts 150-160 seats for the BJP and 130-140 seats for the TMC. Matrize sees the BJP with 146-161 seats and the TMC with 125-140 seats, while P-MARQ projects the BJP with 150-175 seats and the TMC with 118-138 seats, a wider gap. The JVC said the competition was tighter but still gave the BJP a lead of 138-159 seats against the TMC’s 131-152 seats. In most surveys, smaller and other parties are expected to gain only a handful of seats.In contrast, People’s Pulse is an anomaly, predicting a decisive lead for the TMC at 178-187 seats, with the BJP at 95-110 seats and the other parties at 2-3 seats.
