According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), “Local law enforcement said the attack began when Vias grabbed Perez by the hair with force, causing her daughter to fall from her arms. Vyas entered the United States on a student visa in August 2023, but was arrested on the University of Texas campus just three months later for felonious assault. University of Texas Police subsequently contacted ICE.
