Allen allegedly prepared for the incident in advance, including drafting an email he planned to send shortly before the incident, court documents say. The message outlined his motives and suggested the behavior was politically driven.
Allen allegedly wrote in the email that he was “no longer willing” to allow his political representatives to take action, adding, “I do not expect forgiveness… I sincerely apologize.”
Investigators also claim that Allen tracked Trump’s movements before the event, but specific details about the alleged methods have not been disclosed in the documents.
Weapons and ammunition details
The documents provide a detailed description of the weapons Allen allegedly had when he was arrested. Authorities said he was carrying a Mossberg 12-gauge pump-action shotgun with “a spent round in the barrel and eight unfired rounds in the magazine tube.”
The gun reportedly had additional ammunition attached to it, and more bullets were found in another bag.
Officials also said Allen was in possession of a Rock Island Armory .38 caliber handgun loaded with ten rounds of ammunition, as well as two additional magazines containing nine rounds each.
Authorities said the number and type of weapons indicated adequate preparations.

Allegations and official response
Allen faces multiple federal charges, including attempting to assassinate the President of the United States, transporting firearms and ammunition with intent to commit a felony, and discharging a firearm during a violent crime.
Acting Attorney General Todd Branch said the defendants will face strict consequences. “This alleged assassin was stopped thanks to the courage and professionalism of law enforcement officers,” he said, adding that such attacks “will never go unpunished.”
Trump reacts to incident
Trump was removed from the venue after the incident and he later made comments about the suspect. “He’s probably very sick,” he said in an interview, while also refuting claims reportedly made in the suspect’s message.
In an article published in Truth Social, Trump praised the actions of security personnel and said that strengthening infrastructure can help prevent similar incidents in the future.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to investigate the suspect’s background, plans and potential motives.
