A tornado warning was issued for DeSoto County in northeastern Mississippi on Tuesday after severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes were detected near South Mountain.

Radar indicates a possible tornado in the area; however, the National Weather Service (NWS) has not confirmed tornado So far.

Meanwhile, the warning covers northeastern DeSoto County and extends to parts of northwest Marshall County, including areas near Byhalia, Miller, Red Banks, Pleasant Hill and Fort Lewis.

Horn Lake and Walls, both located in DeSoto County, are also within the broader severe weather area.

Residents alerted

On Tuesday, local residents received an alert from the NWS, which warned, “A tornado warning is in effect for the area until 9:15 PM CDT. Please take shelter immediately in a basement or indoor room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the nearest sturdy shelter and protect yourself from flying debris. Check the media.”

Tornado warning issued for parts of DeSoto and Marshall counties in Mississippi

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis has issued a tornado warning for northeastern DeSoto County and northwest Marshall County, Mississippi.

The warning is in effect until 10:00 p.m. Central Time.

The storm is located near Nanshanwen

At 9:13 pm Central Time, meteorologists reported a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near Nanshanwen, moving east at approximately 35 mph. Radar detected the rotation.

Officials warned of the possibility of tornadoes.

The National Weather Service warned that flying debris could be dangerous for anyone without proper shelter. Mobile homes may be damaged or destroyed, and roofs, windows and vehicles may be affected. Trees may suffer severe damage.
