The Australian all-rounder, who has been out of action since the start of the season, expressed his desire to return to action. “I’m excited. I feel like I’ve been watching too much cricket lately and not playing, so I’m eager to get out. Yeah, eager to get out,” Cummins said in a video shared by the team on X. During his absence, Ishan Kishan Serves as captain and leads the team through the first seven games. Cummins acknowledged the impact of the stand-in captain, praising his energy and tactical awareness while also poking fun at one aspect of his leadership. “The kids are enthusiastic. It’s been great to watch, so hopefully I can add something. I think for the most part, Ishan has been good. I think when it comes to throwing, he’s absolutely terrible. But other than that, he’s been outstanding. You know, he’s been brewing, full of energy, looking outside in, and he’s been brewing really good plays,” he said. “He’s obviously a great thinker in the sport. You know, Abhishek is there too and they’ve been running it and it’s looking pretty smooth. So, yeah, when I’m there, I’m sure I’m going to lean on those guys as well. But yeah, well done, Ishan, he’s fantastic,” he added. Cummins also reflects on the need for fast bowling intense pulsed lightpointed out the challenges of this format while highlighting the strong performance of SRH’s young bowlers this season. “The IPL is a very tough place for fast bowlers but I think, I think all our players have been really good. You know, some young guys are coming in,” he said. “I think, well, I do find it hard to find a rhythm in the IPL. Those guys look like they’re, you know, hitting it right away. They have a feel for the game. They’ve sequenced their changes brilliantly so far. So, you know, they’ve looked like the complete player. It’s not going to happen perfectly in every game, but they’ve had a great start,” he added. Cummins traveled to India before the start of the season but did not feature in the initial matches. He returned to Australia for a back scan soon after SRH’s thrilling win over Kolkata Knight Riders on April 2. The 32-year-old will rejoin the team and take back the captaincy responsibilities from Kishan after passing his fitness test on Friday. Under Kishan’s leadership, SRH has registered four wins in seven matches and currently sits fourth in the points table with 8 points and a healthy net run rate of +0.820. With Cummins back on the field, the team will look to build on that momentum as the game progresses.
