‘Deeply disturbing’: Hindu American Foundation reacts to Trump’s retweet of racist remarks targeting Indians, Chinese

“深感不安”:印度教美国基金会对特朗普转发针对印度人和华人的种族主义言论做出反应

The Hindu American Foundation has urged President Trump to delete his Truth Society post in which he retweeted Michael Savage’s rant calling India “hell.”

HAF said the Hindu American Foundation has reacted to President Donald Trump’s disparaging remarks about India at a time when racism has reached an all-time high. The president reported comments from commentator Michael Savage, who called India, China and other countries “hell.” The comment, made in the context of birthright citizenship laws, was retweeted by Trump on his Truth social network without adding anything to it.“The babies here instantly become citizens, and then they bring the whole family over from China or India or somewhere else on the planet,” Savage wrote, describing Indians and Chinese immigrants as “gangsters with laptops.”“They have done more damage to this country than all the Mafia families combined. In my immodest opinion. Gangster with laptop. They blindly rob us, treat us like second-class citizens, let the traditional world win, step on our flag, etc.,” he wrote.Indian American foundations urged the president to delete the post as it would further stoke hatred against Indians in the United States. “We are deeply troubled that @POTUS shared this hateful, racist statement targeting Indian and Chinese Americans. At a time when xenophobia and racism are already at an all-time high, endorsing such rhetoric as President of the United States will further incite hatred and harm our communities. We ask @realDonaldTrump to reconsider, remove this article and recognize the indelible contributions of Asian Americans to our great country,” HAF wrote. However, the US Embassy in New Delhi glossed over the controversy and said Trump had praised India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the past. Embassy spokesman Christopher Elm said Trump had heaped praise on India at a summit of world leaders in 2025 after a ceasefire in Gaza ended the war between Israel and Hamas. “India is a great country and I have a very good friend at the top who is doing a great job. I think Pakistan and India are going to get along,” Trump said at the time.
