An old friend recalled how Kash Patel agreed to become the hockey coach for his son’s team.
then director of the FBI Kashi Patel Embroiled in some controversy, mostly surrounding his alleged erratic behavior, people from his past, those who knew Patel as “Coach Cash,” spoke of his passion for hockey. Clark Murray tells us CNN Ten years ago, he saw Kash Patel working out in a Washington gym wearing a Hartford Whalers shirt. Morey said he started talking to Cash and discovered he was a Justice Department employee but was very passionate about hockey.Morey said he asked Patel if he would coach his son’s team. Morey said the money was never paid and that Patel was very busy at the time, but he never missed a practice or a game and often came to the rink in his overalls. “The kids kind of fell in love with him, he was always there, always available,” said Mowry, who added that his son still texts Patel monthly and the other kids – now all in their 20s – discuss Coach Cash.“They’ll filter out different versions of the news and stuff, and they’ll be like, ‘Is Cash okay? Because we heard this or we saw this guy say these things about him,'” Murray said. “Besides the ugly stuff, kids know his core values and morals are always right.”Patel left the Justice Department in 2017 and began working as an aide on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, which was led by then-Republican Rep. Devin Nunes. It was then that he took on more hockey coaching responsibilities, volunteering as an assistant coach for a youth recreational team comprised of students from Woodrow Wilson High School (now known as Jackson-Reed) in Northwest Washington. One former player told CNN that Cash was more like a brother and that they had no idea at the time how close he was to Donald Trump. Then Kash Patel started appearing on Fox News and had his own show, and the kids were surprised because they rarely talked about anything outside of hockey.
Kash Patel’s 3 Latest Controversies
While Patel’s tenure as FBI director has been mired in one controversy after another, the latest three are:
- The Atlantic reported that Patel drank to the extent that he was drunk at work. Patel filed a $250 million lawsuit against Atlantic Airways.
- Patel was rocked by a federal judge in Texas who dismissed his defamation lawsuit against Frank Figliuzzi, who said on the air that Patel spent more time in nightclubs. The court said the comment was not taken literally.
- The FBI is looking for a reporter who reported that Kash Patel’s girlfriend, singer Alexis Wilkins, is getting 24X7 protection, a report says. That never happened, Patel said, but “the same reporter published a baseless story that resulted in an immediate life threat to my girlfriend.”
