Major update regarding tragedy mass shooting Sunday in Shreveport, La., where authorities identified Monday that one of the victims was wife Suspect Shamar Elkins. Elkins shot and killed his wife, Shaneiqua Pugh, his eight children (seven of whom were his own), the mother of three other children, and one other person before being fatally shot by deputies following a police pursuit.
The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office identified the eight children killed by Elkins as: Jayla Elkins (3), Shayla Elkins (5), Kayla Pugh (6), Layla Pugh (6), Markaydon Pugh (10), Sariahh Snow (11), Khedarion Snow (6) and Braylon Snow (5).
Shanequa Pugh and Elkins’ mother of three other children remain in critical condition and are being treated following Sunday’s shooting.
Who is Shanequa Pugh?
Shaneiqua Pugh, 34, was one of two women shot to death by Shamar Elkins at two homes in Shreveport on Sunday. He was the wife of Shamar Elkins and had four children, all of whom were shot to death. Shreveport police spokesman Christopher Bordelon said Shaneiqua Pugh was shot first by Elkins, followed by eight children. He added that Shaneiqua Pugh and Shamar Elkins were involved in a domestic dispute over separation, which was scheduled to go to trial in the United States on Monday, April 20. Louisiana.
Bordelon said Pugh suffered “very serious injuries” in the shooting, while the other woman suffered “life-threatening injuries,” KSLA reported.
Shaneiqua Pugh called 911 Sunday morning when Elkins broke into her home and shot everyone inside. Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith said Monday that she called 911 a second time when she and a child tried to escape from the roof to the backyard of the house.
A minute later, the caller told her she and the children had escaped from the roof and were now in the backyard. The police reached the scene at 6:01 am,” he added.
Family shares details of bumpy divorce proceedings
Since Shamar Elkins was identified as a suspect in the deadly mass shooting, the 31-year-old’s family has shared more details about the breakdown of his marriage to Shaneiqua Pugh. Elkins’ mother and stepfather told The New York Times that he was suffering “dark thoughts” as a result of his divorce.
“I told him, ‘You can beat anything, man. I don’t care what you’re going through, you can beat it,'” Elkins’ stepfather Marcus Jackson told the New York Times. “Then I remember him telling me: ‘Some people can’t get over their inner demons.’ ‘”
He also hinted at not handling the divorce the right way in multiple Facebook posts.
