Chavez-Dremer will take over in March 2025 after serving two years in the U.S. House of Representatives. Now, she becomes the third high-profile departure from President Donald Trump’s cabinet, following the attorney general Pam Bundy and Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Her decision to resign comes amid a series of misconduct allegations against her and senior staff on her team. According to Politico, there were accusations that Chavez-Dremo had an extramarital affair with a security guard, drank heavily on the job and often asked aides to make up official events to help her with travel plans. Four people have since left the Labor Department, drawing more attention to the matter.

Brian Sloan, the security guard with whom she allegedly had an extramarital affair, reportedly resigned rather than cooperate with the investigation. Her advance team leader, Melissa Roby, was fired after being interviewed by investigators, the publication reported. Likewise, Chief of Staff Han Jixun and Deputy Chief of Staff Rebecca Wright also reportedly resigned under pressure from the White House.
The investigation also revealed that Chavez-Dremo’s father and husband sent private text messages to young female employees.
Chavez-Dremer’s father, Richard, reportedly texted a young female staff member last April, claiming that if he heard she was “in town,” he hoped “you would let me know.”
“I could have made some excuse to go out and show you around. Please keep it a secret,” Chavez allegedly wrote. Weeks later, her husband allegedly texted the same staffer, writing: “I feel forgotten. I thought you were still repenting in church after being exposed to the devilish state of Oregon.” The former labor secretary also urged young women on her staff to “keep an eye on” her husband and father, according to the New York Times.
