Marjorie Taylor Greene claims Trump assassination attempt was staged: 'What happened to Butler...'

A new feud has erupted in conservative circles after former congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene publicly questioned an assassination attempt on Donald Trump during the 2024 campaign.Greene, once a staunch ally of Trump, has joined his group of supporters in raising questions about the shooting at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. She posted on X that “President Trump, of all people, should take the lead” in revealing the full truth. “Why isn’t he?” she added. “That’s the problem.”The attack occurred on July 13, 2024, when a gunman opened fire during a campaign speech. The suspected gunman was Thomas Matthew Crooks, who fired several shots at the president and was immediately killed by a Secret Service sniper. One bullet grazed Trump’s ear and two others were wounded. Local volunteer firefighter Corey Comperatore died while protecting his family.Footage from the scene showed Trump raising his fists and shouting “Fight! Fight! Fight!” as agents surrounded him. He later said he was “saved by God” to “make America great again.”At the time, political opposition raised questions about the incident. MAGA boss Greene’s skepticism, however, is a different turn, with some of Trump’s own supporters now promoting the theory that the attack may have been planned to gain a political advantage over Democrats. No evidence was provided to support these claims. Greene also followed posts from former Republican National Convention delegate Trisha Hope of Texas. “Incredibly important post to read and consider,” Green wrote when sharing the post. “Corey Competore’s family deserves to know the truth about Matthew Crooks and what happened in Butler on July 13, 2024.”Hope said in the post that she found something fishy about the incident. She noted that Trump had said he would only speak about the horrific incident once because it was “too painful.” She wrote, “When people lie, of course it’s a big lie, it’s hard to figure out all the details… It seems to me that Trump made this statement to stop any further discussion of what happened.”Hope also questioned why Trump didn’t “aggressively” criticize the Secret Service. After the incident, he instead praised Agent Sean M. Curran was later appointed head of the agency because he “risked his life to help protect me from an assassin’s bullet.”A review by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) later uncovered security breaches and confirmed that six agents were suspended following the attack.Hope further claimed that photos of Trump at the rally looked unusually solemn and claimed that the death of one person made the event appear more credible. “If you can’t look at this story, use your critical thinking skills, and have at least some questions, then you are the problem and we need you to snap out of it,” she wrote. Her claims quickly went viral, with hundreds of replies within hours. Some users compared the response to a 1981 attempt ronald regan John Hinckley Jr. noted that agents immediately protected the president.
