Congress: Member of Parliament Priyanka Gandhi Vadra The Modi government on Saturday said it must implement reservation for women in the existing 543-seat Lok Sabha legislative body as per the provisions of the 2023 Act, asserting that the BJP cannot be trusted to bring sweeping reforms to the Assembly in view of the motivated delimitation carried out by the Modi government in Assam and Jammu and Kashmir. She assured the opposition of support for the current quotas in LS and said the government could convene a parliamentary session if some minor changes were to be made to the law. The opposition also plans to write to Prime Minister Modi seeking immediate implementation of the 2023 Act. Addressing a press conference, she said, “They (the government) will have three members in the delimitation commission. Just like other commissions, they will capture it. How did they do it in J&K and Assam? They split the constituencies of opposition politicians and saved their own constituencies (Assam). Johnson & Johnson designed strange constituencies. Who can believe them? “The Wayanad Lok Sabha MP said the defeat of the constitutional amendment was a victory for the country, the Constitution, democracy and unity of the opposition. “We have seen the big faces of the BJP in the Assembly. It could be seen from their expressions that this was a shock to them as it was their first defeat in 12 years. We fight harder, side by side, and hopefully we can achieve more than we have now. ” she said. Priyanka said the move to increase the size of the Lok Sabha to 850 means men are trying to retain their seats to avoid being allotted the women’s quota. “We live in a patriarchy.
