Former Democratic Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax shot and killed his wife before taking his own life.
Fairfax County police responded to a horrific murder-suicide in Virginia after former Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax killed his wife and then himself early Thursday morning. “This appears to be an ongoing domestic dispute surrounding a complicated or messy divorce,” Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis told reporters outside the home.Fairfax shot his wife several times, then ran to another part of the home and killed himself with the same gun. Their teenage children were at home when the murder and suicide occurred. One of them called 911. Officers with the Fairfax County Police Department were called to a home on Guinevere Avenue in Annandale shortly after midnight and found a man and a woman dead inside. The home belongs to Fairfax and his wife, Serena.First, police officers who arrived on the scene found the woman unconscious and bleeding. A police dog unit and a helicopter were then sent to search the premises. Fairfax was later found lying in another part of the house, dead after appearing to have shot himself. Fairfax, the former Democratic lieutenant governor who served under former Gov. Ralph Northam, faced public accusations in 2019 from two women who claimed Fairfax sexually assaulted them in separate incidents in 2000 and 2004. He denied all accusations at the time and said both encounters were consensual.
