former lieutenant governor of virginia Justin Fairfax A murder-suicide rocked the Annandale community Thursday after he fatally shot his wife, Selina, before taking his own life. Police confirmed the details, saying the couple were going through a “messy divorce.” Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said the two were found dead in their home shortly after midnight after their teenage son called 911.

Davis said Fairfax and his wife, Dr. Selina Fairfax, who runs a family dental practice, are in the process of divorcing, and Fairfax recently received documents indicating when his next court appearance will be.
“This could be a spark,” the chief said. “Detectives will be trying to figure out whether that contributed to the tragedy here.”
Cerina Fairfax is ‘the kindest’
Now, old posts about Cerina’s kindness have surfaced. Back in April 2015, her practice announced that she had been named the VCU School of Dentistry’s Distinguished Alumnus of the Decade!
“Congratulations Dr. Fairfax!!! We are so proud of you! We also want to thank our patients for their trust, support, and dedication. We are so proud to provide outstanding, expert care to keep your smile bright!” the post read.
Her patients were quick to congratulate Serena.
“Dr. Fairfax, this is no surprise – your patients know you are the best – especially me! Congratulations to you and your amazing team! Thank you for being a dentist who truly cares and treats patients with compassion and a healing touch that is much needed!” someone wrote in the comments section.
Virginia officials react
Virginia Lieutenant Governor Ghazala Hashemi also reacted, calling the development devastating.
“My heart goes out to their children, loved ones and many friends,” Hashmi said in a statement. “I share the sadness of many across the Commonwealth; I await further insight from our law enforcement officials.”
Fairfax had been at the center of a political storm that stymied his rise in state politics several years ago.
In 2019, he seemed poised to become governor as then-governor. Ralph Northam is facing growing pressure to resign over the racist yearbook photo controversy.
However, that trajectory suddenly shifted when two women came forward to accuse them of sexual assault years ago.
Vanessa Tyson alleged that Fairfax forced her to perform oral sex during the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston, while Meredith Watson accused Fairfax of raping her in 2000, when they were both students at Duke University.
Both women chose to identify themselves publicly. Fairfax has denied the allegations, insisted the contacts were consensual and rejected calls for him to step down.
