Asif made the remarks on Monday, a day after talks in Islamabad failed to reach an agreement.

Saturday’s 21-hour talks between the United States and Iran were the first of their kind since 1979, involving top officials from both sides. However, the two sides failed to reach a lasting peace deal to end hostilities after talks in Pakistan over the weekend.

Addressing the media outside the Parliament Building, Asif said everyone was satisfied after the talks as there had been no negative developments so far.

“Only positive developments are seen,” he said, indicating that current diplomatic efforts are moving in a constructive direction.

He added that the next round of Iran-US negotiations is expected to take place soon.

Responding to a question on whether Pakistan would play a decisive role in shaping the future of the region, Asif said the final decision rests with God, The Express Tribune reported.

Vice President Vance, who is leading the U.S. delegation to the talks in Islamabad, said Iran had not accepted Washington’s conditions to end the war despite the U.S.’s “final and best offer.”

Hours after the talks broke down, U.S. President Trump said on social media that negotiations with Iran had failed because “Iran is unwilling to give up its nuclear ambitions.”

The pause in fighting followed an appeal by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif earlier this week as Pakistan led diplomatic efforts to bring the two sides back to the negotiating table.

The conflict began when the United States and Israel launched an attack on Iran on February 28, paralyzing global energy markets and disrupting trade.
