New Bihar chief minister: Samrat Chaudhry elected leader of BJP legislative party

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party, the largest party in the 243-member Parliament with 89 MLAs, has elected Samrat Choudhary as its leader in the legislative body. Later, Nitish Kumar resigned as chief minister of Bihar after recommending the dissolution of the cabinet.Kumar, Bihar’s longest-serving chief minister, informed his cabinet colleagues about the decision to dissolve the council of ministers, a constitutional requirement, before formally tendering his resignation to the governor.The 202-member National Democratic Alliance includes 85 MLAs from the Janata Dal, 19 MLAs from the Ram Vilas and 5 MLAs from the Hindustani Awam Morcha, led by Union Ministers Chirag Paswan and Jitan Ram Manjhi respectively.The alliance also includes five MLAs from the Rashtriya Lok Morcha and is led by Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha.
