New Delhi: India woke up to the heartbreaking news on Sunday that legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle had passed away at the age of 92. Tributes have poured in across the country, including from cricket icons like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, who saw her not just as a music legend but as a deeply cherished human being.Tendulkar shared an emotional message that highlighted her close bond with her family. “This is a very sad day for music lovers in India and around the world. To us, Asha Tai was family. Today, words are too little to express the loss we feel. One moment our hearts fall into silence, and the next, they are floating in the countless melodies she bestowed upon us all. It feels as if time itself has been suspended. Yet, through her timeless songs, she will always remain timeless.“He added: “Thank you, Tai, for filling our lives with warmth, grace and unforgettable music. We will miss you beyond words, Asha Tai.” Kohli also paid tribute, writing, “RIP Asha Bhosle Ji. Your voice touched millions and will always live in our hearts. Om Shanti.”Several other cricketing fraternities, including Gautam Gambhir and BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, expressed grief. “Saddened by the passing of the legendary Asha Bhosle Ji. Her grace and unparalleled talent will forever remain in our memories,” Gambhir said.Asha Bhosle died at Breach Candy Hospital due to multi-organ failure after being admitted due to exhaustion and a chest infection. Her son Anand Bhosle confirmed the news. Fans and well-wishers can pay their last respects at her residence in Lower Parel and the last rites will be held at Shivaji Park in Mumbai later.
