New Delhi: Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has publicly apologized to two of Indian cricket’s most iconic captains, Kapil Dev MS Dhoni distanced himself from his father Yograj Singh’s controversial remarks.Yuvraj addressed the issue directly on the podcast, making it clear that he disagreed with the comments. “I would like to apologize to Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni for these remarks,” he told Sports Tak, adding that he had also spoken to his father about the matter. “I told Dad, this isn’t going to work,” said Yuglaj, who admitted to being uncomfortable hearing Yuglaj’s interview.Elaborating on his stance further, Yuvraj said, “Kapil is a great player and captain of India. I don’t know what the problem was between him and my father. I played with MS Dhoni and have always expressed my relationship with him. But what my dad said about him – I told him, “That’s not going to work.” This is reflected in my experience playing with him. “Also read: Yuvraj Singh reveals what ‘stands out’ in Gautam Gambhir’s coaching styleHe further highlighted his displeasure, saying: “I told him that if he had not said these words, for whatever reason, I would have been grateful. I sincerely want to apologize to both of them. They also know that these words were not said by me. As a cricketer, I have a lot of respect for what they have done for the country.”Yuvraj was one of the key architects of India’s victories in the ICC World Twenty20 in 2007 and the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011, playing a key role in an era dominated by stars like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Dhoni. Reflecting on his current relationship with Yugraj, Yuvraj said that their relationship has changed over time. “We’re trying to interact more as a father and son now rather than as a coach and guardian like we used to. It’s an interesting phase in my life,” he said.“We discussed a lot about cricketers past and present and argued often – but it was all done with humour,” he added, suggesting a more balanced and personal relationship with his father even amid public disagreements.Ugraj’s explosive remarks about Kapil and DhoniFormer India cricketer and coach Yograj Singh has often courted controversy with his remarks about former players. In one of his most shocking claims, he claimed he once went to Kapil Dev’s house with a pistol after he was kicked off the team in the 1980s.“When Kapil Dev became captain…he ditched me for no reason,” Yugraj said, recalling the incident. He claimed that he confronted Kapil and even threatened him, adding that he did not do so only because of the presence of Kapil’s mother.Uvraj was also sharply critical of Dhoni, at one point accusing him of “ruining” Yuvraj’s career by not supporting him for longer in international cricket. “I will not forgive MS Dhoni… what he did to my son is unforgivable,” he said, while also claiming that Yuvraj could have played for a few more years. He extended his criticism further, making sweeping comments about the treatment of players during his tenure and even raising old match-fixing allegations involving past cricketers, including Kapil. However, in a surprising turn ahead of IPL 2026, Ugraj took a more conciliatory tone towards Dhoni, praising his longevity and discipline. “I admire him… he should play for another 10 years,” Ugraj said while dismissing calls for Dhoni to retire.Yuvraj’s apology, however, drew a clear line and underlined his respect for Kapil and Dhoni while trying to move away from the controversy sparked by his father’s remarks.
