Heartbreaking audio captures an air traffic controller admitting they “screwed up” before an Air Canada passenger plane crashed into a fire truck at LaGuardia Airport on Sunday.“The truck was allowed to cross the airport’s Runway 4 before air traffic controllers urged a Miami-bound Frontier plane and vehicle to stop.“Stop, stop, stop, stop,” the controller ordered frantically. “Truck No. 1, stop, stop, stop. Stop Truck No. 1. Stop.”According to the New York Post, controllers ordered Delta Flight 2603 from Detroit to go around and then return to the Air Canada plane, a Jazz Air flight that was landing in Montreal.“Jazz 646, I see you collided with a vehicle. Stay where you are. I know you are unable to move. The vehicle is reacting to you now,” the air traffic controller said.Air traffic controllers told border crews that the runway would be closed and asked if they would like to return to the tarmac.“We’re doing something for that guy, and it doesn’t look good,” the Frontier pilot said.“Yeah, I tried to contact them…we were dealing with an emergency and I screwed up,” the controller replied.“No, you did your best,” the border agent said, trying to reassure the air traffic controller.Sources told The Washington Post that the plane’s pilot and co-pilot were killed, and photos showed the CRJ-900 tilting in the sky.The plane, which was carrying 72 passengers and four crew members, was traveling at about 24 mph when it collided with the truck, which was responding to an emergency involving another aircraft.Officials told ABC News that 11 passengers and two first responders on the Air Canada plane were hospitalized.Shortly before the crash, the pilot of United Flight 2384 aborted the takeoff due to an anti-ice warning light appearing on the instrument panel, CBS News reported. The pilot reported an odor in the cabin, causing the flight attendant to feel uncomfortable.
