Indians buying Irish homes: Amazon tech says quality of life improved after leaving India, internet reacts

At a time when Indian professionals are facing increasing racial attacks in Ireland, the story of a 27-year-old techie making $144,000 a year claiming that life is better in Ireland did not go down well on the internet. They question why a company like Amazon has become Indian in Ireland and pushed the Irish people into a housing crisis. IIT graduate Suras Nayak told CNBC his story about how his quality of life improved in Ireland. He said he plans to stay in Ireland for the foreseeable future because he likes the ease of traveling. “My quality of life has improved. Now that I’m in Ireland, I’ve become accustomed to certain lifestyles that I really enjoy that I wouldn’t be able to get if I came back to India,” Nayak said. Compared to Bangalore or Hyderabad, where he lives in India, Dublin is very expensive. It took Nayak about six to eight weeks to obtain a visa to live and work in Ireland, with Amazon covering all costs. His company provided him with temporary housing and hired an agency to help him find a home. The company also helped him transport property from India to Ireland. Nayak lives in a three-bedroom house with two Amazon employees. Nayak does not own a house in Ireland, but his success story has attracted attention on social media. “Multinational companies like Amazon are making Ireland’s housing crisis worse. Amazon is recruiting Indians with high wages and helping them find homes in the worst housing crisis in the Irish state’s history. Many of these Indians then buy Irish homes,” one wrote. “If it’s a matter of life and death for the Irish, why would the Irish sell their houses to non-Irish people? If your house is thousands more than any Irish person can bid on it, you’re selling your house to the highest bidder without even looking at skin color,” one replied.
