Woman falsely claims her ex-boyfriend was carrying a bomb on an American Airlines flight to get him arrested

A woman accused of making a false bomb threat to her ex-boyfriend has been arrested, in what police say was an act of revenge following a breakup.Brooke Ayres, 47, contacted American Airlines last Wednesday to claim her ex-partner planned to carry explosives on board a flight from Roswell Air Center in New Mexico. The call came just hours after the couple ended their relationship. The report prompted an immediate security response. The 34-year-old man was traveling from Indiana to Ayers and was intercepted by authorities at the airport. Police diverted traffic in the surrounding area while bomb squads searched his rental vehicle for any signs of explosives. No device was found and officials later confirmed the threat was unfounded. The man was acquitted.“The investigation found that Ayers made false statements following an argument with the 34-year-old man the night before, which ended their relationship,” Roswell police said in a statement.Police later went to Ayers’ home to question her about the phone call. Police said she became confrontational during the encounter.“Ayers threatened to pull a knife on an officer, so she was handcuffed and transported to the police station for questioning,” police said. They added: “Ayers resisted while being handcuffed and dug his nails into an officer’s arm.”Ayers was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including making a bomb threat, aggravated assault on a peace officer, battery on a peace officer, and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer, authorities said. In her photo, she appears to be smiling.
