Punjab Police foil terror plot, arrest three persons in connection with ISI-backed module

Punjab police said on Monday they had thwarted a module backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence Agency that was allegedly planning to carry out grenade attacks on police agencies in Punjab and other states.Three people were arrested in connection with the case and police recovered two grenades and a Glock pistol from their possession.Preliminary investigations revealed that ISI-supported modules were involved in a systematic attack on multiple state police agencies, an incident that has been successfully averted.Police chief Gaurav Yadav said the grenades had POF (Pakistan Ordnance Factory) markings on them, indicating a cross-border link, PTI reported.The arrested persons are Sarabjit Singh, a resident of Ammishah village in Tarn Taran, Bikramjit Singh, a resident of Nangal Pannuwan village in Amritsar, and Amandeep Singh, a resident of Indra Colony in Amritsar.Sharing details of the operation, Assistant Inspector General of State Special Operations Group, Amritsar, Sukhminder Singh Mann said that in an intelligence-led operation, a police team of SSOC arrested Sarabjit Singh and Amandeep Singh and seized grenades and pistols from their possession.During the course of investigation, the police found that Bikramjit Singh was the key figure and main contact of the Pakistan Intelligence Operator (PIO) in the organization and he was operating from Disa, Gujarat.Mann said the information was immediately shared with the Gujarat ATS and with their active cooperation, the SSOC arrested Bikramjit Singh. He said investigation also revealed that all the accused were in contact with the PIO through social media platforms.The investigation also revealed that the group was planning to carry out grenade attacks on multiple police agencies in Punjab and other states on the instructions of ISI handlers, he added.Police said efforts were underway to identify, track and arrest other members of the module.The FIR has been registered with the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) of Amritsar police under the Explosives (Amendment) Act, Arms Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
