An employee of Jack Dorsey’s Block claims she resigned from the company immediately after it laid off 40% of its staff. Despite being offered a retention package that included a 75% raise and a one-time bonus, the technician chose to leave the next day. In a detailed post, she explained that she couldn’t justify profiting from the loss of most of her team members’ livelihoods.

“My employer, Block, laid off 40% of its employees last Thursday (February 26). I was not affected…but I was affected. I decided to resign immediately and left the company the next day, February 27. I figured a company that could steal half of its employees with Thanos without me needing two weeks’ notice would be just another IC that could easily fall into the 40%.” technical staff wrote on LinkedIn.
In the post, she shared that it was her personal story and experience working in the tech industry. She claimed that some of Bullock’s choices were “seriously problematic” and that the whole situation made her angry. She continued, “I bet a lot of people who were fired or still work at Block are angry too. Anger is a feeling of perceived injustice and is a valid response to these events.”
Over the course of 10 agonizing minutes, the employee watched nearly 70% of her immediate and sister teams disappear. The cleanup left her and a new employee, three days old, to clean up the mess, leaving her with “huge fear” and a strong sense of survivor’s guilt.

Bullock offered those who survived the mass layoffs significant raises, according to the techie. “I’m not sure what other people’s retention packages looked like, but I personally got about a 75% raise (90% if you include the one-time bonus!). So basically, I saw my company dump half of my coworkers and double my salary.”

She went on to say she wanted to be included in the layoffs, but was told “no.”
“Because really, when you see your entire team — the people you’ve worked so hard to build a positive relationship with over the past year and a half — disappear, why should you choose to leave with dignity?”

“So why is this happening? Bullock claims it’s because AI has made companies so efficient. Last year, AI Shoved down everyone’s throat. It’s all about artificial intelligence. We are told to use artificial intelligence as much as possible. Being forced to use tools that accelerate the disappearance of the jobs on which our livelihoods depend is nothing short of dystopian. Personally, I see very limited productivity gains from AI, and nothing meaningful enough to justify throwing away half the company’s employees and their institutional knowledge and expertise (bus factor, anyone?). “
‘Employees have no choice’
The woman continued, “So 40% of employees have no choice but to take a severance package and leave. The remaining 60% are paid well to stay and clean up the mess our ‘leaders’ have made so that we can continue to contribute to a future where AI puts us all out of work.”
Last month, Jack Dorsey announced that his technology company Block would cut “nearly half” of its workforce, laying off 4,000 people.
Dorsey insisted that the company remains strong and financially stable, and attributed the aggressive layoffs to a strategic shift toward creating, using and relying on “smart tools.”

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday soft-launched four digital tools and unveiled the mascots of Census 2027, ‘Pragati’ (female) and ‘Vikas’ (male).These mascots symbolize the equal participation of men and women in India’s journey to become a developed nation by 2047.The new digital platform, developed by the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), is designed to support the enumeration process of the world’s largest census exercise.The 2027 Census is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2026, and will be conducted in two phases. The first phase, a home listing and housing census, will take place from April to September 2026, followed by the census phase in February 2027.The national headcount will be conducted entirely digitally for the first time. Before enumerators begin going door-to-door, citizens can also conduct a self-census online in 16 languages.At the heart of the event will be the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS), a dedicated digital portal designed to coordinate one of the largest administrative operations in the world.The system will mark a major shift from traditional paper-based enumerations. Instead of clipboards and paper forms, field staff will use handheld devices, geotagged mapping tools and a centralized web-based monitoring platform.More than 3.2 million enumerators, supervisors and other field officers across the country will participate in the exercise. They will use handheld devices to collect detailed demographic, social and economic data from hundreds of millions of households.The collected data will be transmitted and processed through the CMMS platform, allowing it to be aggregated, verified and monitored in near real-time, significantly reducing the time required for compilation and error correction.The 2027 Census will be the 16th national census since independence and the first to be conducted fully digitally, with a self-enumeration option for citizens.The decennial census was originally scheduled for 2021 but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.According to the Registrar General of India (RGI), in the first phase of the exercise, citizens will be asked 33 questions focusing on house listings and housing details.
