India reach final nets match before T20 World Cup semi-finals

In January last year, India defeated England 4-1 in the five-match T20I series and sealed the victory with a 150-run win at the Wankhede. However, the stakes are much higher in the World Cup semifinals.Both teams go into the match with confidence, although England appear to have more momentum after winning all three of their Super 8 matches against Sri Lanka, Pakistan and New Zealand. Meanwhile, India will be looking to defy history – no defending champion has defended the T20 World Cup and no host nation has won the title. In fact, in subsequent editions, no defending champion even made it to the finals.India tops Group A along with Pakistan and its affiliates, having won all four league matches. However, their batting looked vulnerable against spin on slower balls. This was evident in Wankhede’s match against the United States, where the hosts trailed 77-6 before the captaincy change Suryakumar Yadav An unbeaten 84 off 49 balls saved them.

England began their campaign with a narrow four-run win over Nepal in Wankhede, with Sam Curran defending 10 runs in the final over and Will Jacks producing an all-round performance.They later lost to West Indies by 30 runs at the same venue, with Sherfane Rutherford smashing 76 off 42 balls and Caribbean spin stifling England’s batting.India’s Super 8 season began with a 76-run loss to South Africa in Ahmedabad. They beat Zimbabwe by 72 runs in Chennai, scoring 256 for four, and then beat West Indies by 5 wickets at Eden Gardens, with Sanju Samson’s unbeaten 97 off 50 balls powered by Jasprit Bumrah’s double.Meanwhile, England started the Super 8 tournament with a 51-run win over Sri Lanka before ousting them for 95 runs. They then defeated Pakistan in the two-wicket match, with captain Harry Brook scoring 100 off 51 balls and Liam Dawson taking 3-24. England secured a spot in the semi-finals with a four-wicket win over New Zealand.

Samson has been one of India’s most consistent batsmen, in stark contrast to opening partner Abhishek Sharma, who has managed just 80 runs in six games at an average of 13.33, including three ducks.His fifty against Zimbabwe remains his only significant contribution. The left-hander will hope to rediscover his touch on the pitch where he once scored 135 off 54 balls.England are also worried about their opener. Buttler has scored just 62 runs in seven games at an average of 8.85, while Phil Salter has struggled to maintain consistency apart from scoring 62 runs against Sri Lanka at Palleke. Samson, who has been struggling with short-pitch bowling, and Abhishek, who is out of form, may face a stern test from Jofra Archer in the powerplay.However, Archer also found Wankhede’s performance unforgiving, taking 1-42 against Nepal and 1-48 against West Indies.Ishan Kishan has been silent since his 40-ball 77 against Pakistan in Colombo. However, he and Suriya, Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya – all former Mumbai Indians players – will be familiar with Wankhede’s conditions. Ranked 3rd and 6th, he scored 44 not out from 16 balls against Zimbabwe and 27 from 15 balls against West Indies.India’s vulnerability to spin is likely to be tested again by the England attack that features Adil Rashid, Liam Dawson, Rehan Ahmed and off-spin all-rounder Will Jacks. India will fight back with Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel, although Varun has struggled to find his rhythm – a far cry from last year’s bilateral series against England, when he took 14 wickets in five games at an average of 9.85.

T20 World Cup: How Shivam Dube became India's go-to man in crunch time

The left-hander responded with a crucial 16-ball 27 and he shared a 57-run fifth wicket with Kohli to help India reach 176/7.

Why India vs England semi-final will be a nightmare for bowlers? 2026 T20 World Cup

During last year’s Asia Cup final against Pakistan, Dube was once again pushed up the rankings, this time ahead of Linku Singh. He led India to a score of 77/4 and he teamed up with Tilak Varma to score a 40-ball 60 to lead India to a 5-wicket win with 33 runs off 22 balls.The 32-year-old has continued to make timely contributions in this T20 World Cup and will do so again when India take on England in the semi-finals at their home venue, the Wankhede Stadium, on Thursday.It was here that Dube first attracted attention in the inaugural T20 Mumbai League, hitting five sixes in a match for Shivaji Park Lions. He repeated the feat in a Ranji Trophy match against Baroda in 2018 and earned an IPL contract the following year.Dube didn’t start early against the United States and Namibia at this World Cup, but his batting picked up steam as the tournament wore on. He was widely praised for his 17-ball 27 against Pakistan and a fluid 31-ball 66 against the Netherlands, while his blistering eight-for-four against the West Indies in the previous match helped India seal a berth in the semi-finals.this chennai super kings The all-rounder was praised after that match, with head coach Gautam Gambhir and front-runner Jasprit Bumrah highlighting the importance of his brief cameo.“For me, Shivam’s two boundaries are as important as Sanju’s 97 because if he had not hit those two boundaries, that knock might not have been talked about,” Gambhir said. “Big contributions make headlines, but small contributions can help a team cross the line.”Bumrah echoed this sentiment in a video posted by the ICC on Instagram. “The two fours that Dube hit – not many people will appreciate that. But people who know cricket know that those two boundaries release pressure,” he said.While Dube’s performances with the bat have been consistent, India would like him to make more of an impact with the ball as his price has been high. bowling coach Morne Morkel Believe this is more about execution than form. “I don’t think it’s a loss of bowling form,” Morkel said on Wednesday. “Shivam knows his game very well. Sometimes the idea behind the delivery is right but the execution is not that good.”Morkel added that improving his decision-making with the ball will be key. “Teams will chase him, but it also creates opportunities to take wickets. If he can be a little smarter and execute better, it will make a big difference.”Dube struggled with short pace early in his international career but has worked hard to overcome this weakness at the Nets. India will hope he can create a similar comeback with the ball.

Nitish’s son Nishant launches political career ahead of Lok Sabha elections

New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar is set to enter politics, a development that marks a reversal from his father’s usual aversion to dynastic politics but also lends itself to growing clamor within the JDU that the party sees in him a heir apparent who can help connect it with its core supporters as it transitions to a leadership transition.Several party workers said Nitish, who recently turned 75 and whose health is under close scrutiny, has given his consent for his son to join politics. While speculation about him bagging one of the two Lok Sabha seats that will be given to the JDU is just speculation, there are signs that the party leadership may have overcome its hesitance to put Nitish’s son on stage despite the clamor from the people.

Bihar Buzz: Will CM Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar enter politics through the Rajya Sabha route?

Nishant Kumar’s turn to politics only at the age of 50 has led to a growing recognition among key JDU functionaries that he can help the party navigate competition and unpredictability in Bihar’s crowded political arena, as an important face that its traditional voters – Kurmi and some backward and Dalit – can relate to because of their association with his father.Bihar minister Shrawon Kumar from JDU said Nishant is about to enter politics and it will be clear in a day or two whether he will go to the Rajya Sabha. A senior JDU official stressed that Nitish was firmly against dynastic politics but pointed out that some regional parties face an uncertain future as there is no clear line of succession. On the other hand, the RJD has retained its base despite repeated drubbings in the polls as its traditional voters have accepted Lalu Prasad’s son, he added Tejashvi Yadav as his political heir.While Nishant’s future path is far from predictable, his presence will help galvanize the JDU’s base, which is confused about its future outside Nitish.

Massive UAE visa relief: Overstay fines for tourists affected by flight chaos during Iran and US-Israel wars scrapped
UAE Immigration waives fines for tourists stranded due to flight disruptions: Huge relief for travelers

The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) of the United Arab Emirates has announced a comprehensive exemption from overstay fines for residents, visitors and tourists who are unable to leave the country due to flight cancellations and airspace closures due to the conflict between Iran, the United States and Israel affecting the Gulf aviation corridor. The policy, aimed at easing the burden on travelers stranded by circumstances beyond their control, has quickly become one of the most talked about tourism developments in the region.The ICA’s decision applies to a large group of individuals whose visa status may have become technically invalid due to the unprecedented flight disruptions and airspace closures that have forced them to extend their stays, a situation affecting travelers from around the world trying to transit through or leave the UAE. The exemption is effective immediately and applies to those affected by mandatory travel disruptions.

Why the UAE is waiving overstay fines: Humanitarian travel response

Since March 2026, coordinated U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iranian targets and Iran’s subsequent missile and drone responses have stoked serious regional tensions, leading several Gulf states to restrict or close their airspace. The restrictions have grounded airlines, canceled flights and left thousands of frustrated travelers stranded at airports, hotels and transportation hubs across the region. Emirates airlines including Emirates, Etihad Airways, flydubai and Air Arabia have temporarily suspended most scheduled flights as national authorities prioritize safety amid uncertain conditions.

The UAE Immigration Authority relaxes visa regulations: Passengers affected by the war between Iran, the United States and Israel can be exempted from overstay fines

UAE Immigration eases visa rules: Overstay fines waived for passengers affected by Iran-US-Israel war

The prolonged closure of one of the most important airspaces for the global aviation industry has forced many long-haul passengers, tourists and UAE residents to remain in the country well beyond their planned departure dates. Under normal circumstances, such overstays could result in fines, legal disputes and visa penalties. Recognizing this exceptional situation, the ICA is waiving all such fines for overstays as a direct result of travel disruption. The decision is intended to ease the financial stress travelers face due to trip cancellations, extended hotel stays and logistical uncertainty.

How UAE waivers could play into Iran, US, Israel war: What travelers need to know

According to the ICA, exemptions apply to:

  • tourists and visitors visa Expired when unable to leave the UAE due to flight cancellations and airspace closures;
  • Residents and expatriates whose exit permits are affected by the disruption of departure flights;
  • Individuals holding short-term visas (visit visa, tourist visa, transit visa) who are unable to leave the country before their visa expires due to the crisis.

Importantly, those seeking exemption relief must provide documentation that they are unable to leave due to overstaying as a direct result of flight cancellations or airspace restrictions. Evidence can include canceled ticket receipts, airline notifications or official airport advisories. ICA urges applicants to follow standard channels and cooperate with immigration officials. The authorities also stressed that no additional penalties will be levied on these overstay cases as long as they are caused by recognized airspace disruptions. This approach embodies compassionate, people-centered policies to address extraordinary travel challenges.The removal of overstay fines will come as a huge relief to many visitors and residents in the UAE, especially those planning short-term business trips or holidays. In the past week alone, thousands of travelers have queued at terminals at international airports including Dubai International (DXB) and Abu Dhabi Zayed International (AUH) for flight updates as airlines adjust operations under airspace restrictions. Individuals from South Asia, Europe, North America and Africa reported extended stays and unplanned hotel stays due to flight disruptions.The ICA’s exemption helps eliminate one of the most common anxieties faced by travelers stranded abroad: the fear of financial penalties or a visa blacklist. Waiving these fines provides travelers with a clearer path to regularize their status and return home without encountering unnecessary bureaucratic or financial obstacles.

Trends in travel policy during crises and wars between Iran, the United States, and Israel

The UAE’s move reflects a broader trend of crisis-driven migration flexibility, with countries temporarily adjusting visa enforcement in response to unusual disruptions. In recent years, similar policies have been enacted around the world during events such as epidemics, natural disasters, and geopolitical crises, with the recognition that strict enforcement under such circumstances would be both unreasonable and onerous. By taking a pro-traveller stance, the UAE positions itself as a country that prioritizes humanitarian considerations as well as security and public safety.

Travel agents, tourism experts and the expat community generally welcomed the decision, calling it a “practical, compassionate and necessary” policy. Many affected travelers took to social media to express relief and gratitude, sharing stories of extended stays and logistical challenges before exemptions were announced. International embassies and consulates in the UAE have also issued information updates to encourage their nationals to take advantage of exemptions where applicable and to coordinate documentation guidance with immigration authorities.While the exemption directly affects travelers in the UAE, it also has a wider impact on global travel confidence. At a time when flight disruptions have affected tens of thousands of travelers around the world and global aviation networks remain unstable, such policies can alleviate uncertainty and reaffirm trust in the international travel system. Countries with major transportation hubs such as the UAE play a vital role in global mobility, and policies that take travelers’ realities into account can influence tourism and business travel trends long after the crisis has passed.The UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) has waived overstay fines for travelers stranded due to flight cancellations and airspace closures due to regional tensions. Exemptions include visitors, visitors and residents whose visas have expired because they are unable to leave the UAE. Passengers must provide evidence that they are unable to travel due to flight disruptions. The move eases financial and bureaucratic stress for thousands of travelers around the world. The UAE’s policy reflects a humanitarian approach to travel enforcement during crises.

Under pressure, Karnataka to revise internal quota for SC community

BENGALURU: Under pressure from the Left-sectarian Scheduled Caste (SC) community and its two ministers, the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karanataka has decided to revisit its earlier decision to fill 56,432 government posts without internal reservation. The Cabinet is expected to consider the issue of introducing internal reservation on a proportional basis within the existing 15% SC quota in its meeting on Thursday.A few days ago, Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot approved the Karnataka Scheduled Caste Subdivision Bill, 2025, which provides for internal quotas among scheduled caste communities. The bill, passed in December last year, proposed to increase the overall reservation rate in SCs from 15% to 17% and distribute it to 101 SC communities. Gehlot’s agreement came in the wake of protests by job seekers in Dharwad, who demanded that the government fill nearly 2.5 lakh vacancies in various departments. Recruitment has been largely frozen since October 2024 to facilitate an internal quota system. Under the 17% structure in the bill signed by Grote, the left (16 communities) will get 6% under category A, the right (19 communities) will get 6% under category B and 63 communities will get 5% under category C. Adi Andhra, Adi Dravida and Adi Karnataka groups can choose to be reserved under Category A or Category B.But this matrix violates the 50 per cent cap on total reservation imposed by the Supreme Court and a disputed case is pending in the courts. Therefore, the government issued a notification to fill 56,432 posts under the existing 15% SC quota and clarified that the increased 17% quota will be implemented in recruitment only after the court’s decision. This triggered a strong reaction from stakeholders.

Sanju Samson in India (Photo by Pankaj Nangia/Getty Images)

india opener Sanzhou Samson He thrust himself into the spotlight with an unbeaten 97 against West Indies in a virtual elimination match. His composure in a tense chase turned the tide of the match and provided India with a crucial boost ahead of their semi-final clash against England.The game also represented a dramatic turn in the Samson Championship. After losing his place in the starting line-up, he started on the bench and when he was recalled for the Windy’s game he made the most of the opportunity. In the chase of 190-plus, and under immense pressure, the right-hander silenced his critics with a composed and authoritative performance that could prove crucial to India’s campaign.former south africa captain Fife du Plessis A detailed tactical view of Samson’s game is provided, identifying potential chinks in his armour. Du Plessis, while acknowledging Samson’s strength in the mid-wicket area, said that high speed, especially short directional balls with speeds exceeding 140 kilometers per hour, could cause him problems.“It’s always been an area where you feel, with Sanju, you can attack him (with the short ball) and with great pace. He’s very strong in the abdominal area and the backswing there is really nice. But at 140-plus, if you do it well and high, you feel there’s a small window to attack him. That’s a weakness. So England have the evidence, so they’ll have the blueprint,” Du Plessis said on ESNCricinfo.The recent matches have followed a similar script for Samson, with quality short-pitch bowling testing him. This trend was repeated again in the Super 8 against Zimbabwe, with Blessings Muzarabani taking advantage of this weakness to eliminate him early.Expanding on his analysis, du Plessis stressed that Samson must now be prepared for a series of short deliveries, especially against a quick one like this Jofra Archer.“Sanju will know what’s going to happen next, so the question for him now is – how do I respond? What do I do when Archer goes against me? Am I attacking it or are there other bowlers out there that I can bat a little better at?” the former Proteas skipper added.
