Bangalore: National Human Rights Commission (national human rights commission) has issued a notice to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) seeking action reporting on complaints related to extramarital dating platform Gleeden, citing concerns over user safety, exploitation and access by minors.The notification, issued on April 9, came after a complaint was filed by the Seva Nyaya Utthan Foundation, which claimed that the app promoted extramarital relationships and had millions of users in India. The complaint raised concerns about abuse through false identities, potential exploitation of women and the risks posed by minors accessing the platform.Priyank Kanoongo, a member of the National Human Rights Commission, said in a post onThe committee noted that, on its face, the allegations “appear to violate the human rights of the victims” and directed MeitY to investigate the matter and submit a report within two weeks.The National Human Rights Commission also asked the ministry to review existing safeguards for women and children and assess whether the existing regulatory framework adequately covers such platforms.The development comes amid increasing scrutiny on digital platforms offering adult services, especially in terms of verification, user safety and regulation of the Indian internet ecosystem.
