Congress has expressed concern over the government’s reported plan to “proportionately increase” Lok Sabha seats, claiming it would disadvantage southern states as well as smaller states and benefit northern states. It believes the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party timed the meeting during the ongoing assembly elections to influence polls in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Stalin’s criticism of the proposal raised questions whether the Indian bloc would support the bill before Parliament. On X day, Stalin called the proposal “This is not a reform, this is a redesign of power.”
