They also emphasized that they had been away from the United States for more than five years and had nothing to do with the “horrible crime.”
The person insisted in a second letter that their motivation was not greed. “I just want a fair, peaceful life with enough money to quietly restart my life without having to enter the witness protection program,” they wrote.
