Trump slams CNN for ‘false’ reporting

“No one will believe Fake News CNN knowingly published a false and dangerous statement pretending it came from the top of the Iranian government. It was not!” Trump said.

“This is completely made up and published as a headline, perhaps to inflame a very delicate situation. This is a new, trouble-making website from Nigeria and CNN has just been caught cheating – this is a very dangerous thing!” (sic), he added.

Trump said in a previous article that the alleged claims spread by CNN were false and linked them to what he said was a fraudulent news website based in Nigeria.

Additionally, he mentioned that officials were investigating whether there was any criminal activity involved in the release of the report and urged the network to retract the article and apologize.

“It is well known to CNN that the statement released by the so-called CNN World News is a fraud. The false claim was linked to a fake news site (from Nigeria) and, of course, was immediately picked up by CNN and trumpeted as a ‘legitimate’ headline. The official statement from Iran has just been released and is posted on TRUTH below. The authorities are in the process of determining whether publishing the false CNN World News statement constitutes a crime, or is it a sick rogue player? CNN “We have been ordered to immediately retract this statement and sincerely apologize for their continued poor reporting. The results of the investigation will be announced shortly.”

What the CNN report claims

At the same time, the White House account shared a screenshot of the relevant report, titled “Iran claims victory, saying it forced the United States to accept the 10-point plan.”

CNN stated in the article that the statement of the Iranian Security Council declared that “the enemy suffered an undeniable and historic defeat in the unfair, illegal and criminal war against the Iranian nation.”

CNN defends its article

CNN dismissed the accusation and claimed it relied on reliable sources for its reporting.

A spokesperson said, “The statement was obtained by CNN from an Iranian official and reported in multiple Iranian state media outlets. We have received a statement from a specific official Iranian spokesperson whom we are aware of.”

CNN senior international correspondent Matthew Chance responded to Trump’s assertion that the statement was fabricated. Chance told Anderson Cooper that the statement, issued by Iran’s state news agency, was more unique, longer and “more aggressive” than the statement issued by the foreign minister.

“When President Trump posted on Truth Social objecting to the report, the document, he said it was false. I followed up with the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and said, ‘Look, do you have this document that you can send to me?’ They sent me the document themselves, and it was identical to our original document. So I think we’re very confident, very confident that this document is authentic,” Chance told Deadline.

The exchange highlighted ongoing tensions between Trump and the broadcaster, which has been regularly criticized by the administration for its coverage of the conflict in Iran.
